Treatment for my music magazine production.

Magazine first draft.

Planning

This is the plan I have created so that i am able to take images for my front cover sufficiently. I have organised these time so that I can take images in the correct locations and get good quality images for my front cover. 

Moodboard

This is a selection of images that I have put together that I feel have inspired me when it comes to taking my images for my front cover. All of these images are from house music magazines or of house music artists. The way they are photographed or the clothes they are wearing and colour themes are very similar. Katy b a dance music artist has bright hair and wears bright clothes in many of her images but she is also very causally dressed which reinforces what I had said previously in my photo planning and why I would like Cameron and Will to wear casual clothing. However I may experiment images where they wear bright clothing or have bright props such as album covers. The cover of diclsoures mix mag is also in my mood board as this is where i have taken my inspiration from and  I would like to recreate this magazine cover as well as adding features I have picked up by looking at the way different house music artists are photographed. The black brick wall behind Jess Glynne has showed me a different way of making a brick wall look very professional as she is in focus against the brick wall, which also makes the image look very causal but bold against her orange hair. She stands out just like i want the people i am photographing to.

Photo Planning

I am going to have my friends Cameron Lea and will archer pose for my music magazine front cover. I have chosen to photograph these people as i feel that when photographing them i will be able to capture images that represent my type of magazine. In my genre research on the front cover was disclosure I would like to almost recreate a duo like disclosure by using my two friends Cameron Lea and Will archer. I think they are the right ages, they have a specific style that will appeal to audiences of this magazine and the type of music duo that i will represent appeals to a wide range of people because disclosure the duo appeals to many boys and girls. I will experiment by using a range of different camera shots and angles because i feel that it will enable me to have a wider range if images to choose from. However i would like to mainly focus of extreme and basic close ups, and mid shots because these shot types will enable readers to look closer at the characters on the front cover. For some images i may have them pose with props or pose with different faces to represent different emotions. It is also important that the two people posing for my magazine look fashionable and up to date with fashion because this will attract readers. I want them to appear like well known artists so i have researched into the way that the artists of this genre dress or act. 

Cameron will wear an over sized tee with jeans and trainers which will create a very casual yet fashionable look which is very iconic for boys. His hair will be styled in order to make him appear attractive to readers. I will take images that will make him appear very trendy but also relaxed as most dance and house music clubs or events are very relaxed and are full of huge crowds so therefore the clothes that people wear to these events are fairly casual. I also will take images of him wearing bold or bright clothing because most house music artists are very edgy and fashionable. 

Will will wear a branded tee with jeans and hooded jacket or a body warmer, with trainers also. This again will create a fashionable but relaxed image. He should look of quite a similar fashion to Cameron as i want them to look quite professional even though the images will be quite casual. He will also have his hair styled and look fairly groomed in order for him too to appear quite attractive to readers. 

All the images taken for my magazine will be of young people both male and female and I will try to make it look as though they are in a dance environment expect for the front cover because i would like this to appear more professional so that you will en able to see the characters closer rather than an image of them partying. 

I will try to take most images against a white or plain background as this is professional or maybe a brick wall as i think this adds to the causal look of the image, Cameron and Will, will be the only two people in the images as I want the main image to focus on them. However i may take some pictures of them in front of some surroundings where they are the ones in focus. The background depends on the props that may feature in the image.  I may also try and take images of them with different lights or shadows shining on them to create more of a partying atmosphere.

How has technology affected people reading magazines and newspapers?

Sales of weekly music magazine NME have dropped for the second six months in a row to under 30,000, figures have revealed. A report conducted by the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) showed the magazine's circulation fell 14.3% compared with the same time last year. It was the biggest faller among other music and film magazines. Mojo remains the largest monthly music magazine, despite shedding 4.8% in sales compared with last year. Rock magazine Kerrang! saw a 0.2% boost in the last six months, but compared with the same time last year only suffered a decline of 2.2%.

Sales of Q fell by 10.1% on the previous year, followed by Total Film which lost 5.6% in the same period. Sales for NME, which was founded in 1952, have now fallen to below 30,000 despite the magazine relaunching its format, front cover and logo last year. 

The information above is from a bbc news update about the decline in music magazine sales. As new technology is introduced, customers are now able to access magazines on their phone, laptops as apps have now been created so that people can access magazines more easily and much cheaper. More and more people are introduced to the newer technology because of this magazines like nme, mixmag have faced a decline because they are printed and do not supply the app or software on line that enables customers to view the magazine this way. In my genre research however i found that many house/dance music magazines were online and it was hard to find any magazine of my genre that were printed. This is due to the fact that this genre of music is quite modern and popular to younger people, however younger people are less likely to purchase printed magazines now because they are typically out on the nights or busy due to them having more freedom. I have gained a better understanding of music magazine industries and the effect that technology has on this.
